It is important to note that Snowie is often wrong in it's evaluation, and in many cases, only a rollout will tell the story. Even that is not definitive, as there are many kinds of positions that Snowie gets wrong on the rollouts, simply because it makes some key wrong plays during the rollout itself. The same is true of Jellyfish and GNUBG.
So if you can't trust the best computer software programs available, where do you go for the best information? I go to several of the best players in the world, and most of the time, they do agree with Snowie if they do a long enough rollout, but when they don't, you just have to take their word for it. The answer is: you can never be sure.
Several of the plays that earlier Snowie editions declared to be best were accepted by all the top players in the game until later additions and some critics proved them wrong.
Bottom line: there is no guarantee of the right answer from any source, but for the most part, you can rely on the programs pretty well, provided you do an extensive rollout.
