Post Post subject: Cubeful equity Reply with quote

Anyone can explain me this Snowie evaluation result?

Hitting I win more games, gammons and backgammons, and lose only a few more gammons and backgammons. So why hitting makes the cubeful equity lower?

I fist thought it was because the non-hitting play gives me more chances to double white out if I am not hit on next roll. But in fact both plays leaves the same shots, 13. I don't think match score is relevant either.

Any of you would have played like Snowie here and why?

This position is all about the cube. With the cube in the middle, you want to make the play that will give you the best opportunity to double safely on the next roll. If you hit and your opponent hits you back, you can't even double. But if you make the other play, you will probably be able to win the game with a double on your next roll more often than if you hit.

I have to admit that being a money player so much of the time, my first instinct would have been to hit, and I am surprised that the difference is so great between the plays.
