Still a bit lost...

I have several positions saved as screen captures on my desktop to include in some upcoming posts, but every time I try to include them it comes up as a bunch of illegible text characters instead.

Can anyone tell me what format the pictures need to be saved in, or otherwise how to go about inserting them in the posts? I know someone had mentioned it before I started on this website but for the life of me can't find the thread...
