Post subject: How'd you move this 4-2 |
|
|
Hello
In this position I had to move 4-2
What do you think is better? 24/18 or 8/4-6/4
I made 24/18 because I did not want to be even more in retard getting hit and it was an excellent opportunity to make his bar point, but gnuBG considers this is not the best move although I won the game and the match after sending the cube 4 moves later.
I believe that leaving those two blots is a huge risk to lose by gammon because of the strengthness of white inner board, the weakness of mine and his good timing.
Could you please give a clue on this?
Thanks in advance _________________ If the brain were simple enough to be understood, we would be too stupid to understand it. |

| I was ready to post that I absolutely agree with you. But Last minute I saw he is already hit at the bar. If you don't make now that point (your oponnent is at the bar, so he cannot use his full roll to hit you), then when?? Making the bar seems very defensive, while if you make your 4-point, as an offensive move may repay you later. But the first thing i saw too was the bar point |

There is indeed a white man on the bar but I find quite dangerous to leave a blot on the bar point because all the 6 but 6-6 (10/36) hit me and making the 4 point only avoids 2 more rolls (4-6, 6-4). So I am not comfortable and I prefer to block the bar point what helps me defend the outer board.
And if hit, I am pretty sure I shall dance on the bar for quite a long time and even be hitted a second time. _________________ If the brain were simple enough to be understood, we would be too stupid to understand it. |

As you can see from the Snowie evaluation, 24/18 is clearly best, and for the reasons you state.
