Here's a play I got wrong over the board at the Michigan tournament. Black to play 3-2. What's your play?






There are basically two choices: make your 5 point and have a great board ready if you hit him, or make the outside point so that you don't get hit with an 8. Making the outside point also has the advantage of stopping double 4 from coming home. However, keeping his 5 point also causes him to leave a double shot if he rolls 6-5.


Getting that double shot is big, and so is having the 5 point if you get the shot, so that's the right play by a lot. I missed this, but got lucky and still won the game and match.
