Post subject: Handicap for differences in skill |

If one player is much better than the other, it is fair to give the poorer player a handicap. My suggestion is that you pick the kind of handicap that works best for you, but you stop giving the poorer player a handicap when he is winning.
Here are some typical handicaps I have used:
1. Let the poorer player have the opening roll.
2. Let the poorer player start with his 5, 4, or 7 point made.
3. If you are playing for money, at the end of the session, the poorer player only pays 75 percent of the amount due.
4. If you are playing a match, let the poorer player start with some points. For example, in a match to 7, let the poorer player start with 2 or 3 points.
5. Let the poorer player have one "roll-over" each game. If he doesn't like his roll, he can roll over. (Usually, this must be done before the cube is turned.)
6. If you have Snowie or one of the other programs, let the poorer player use the computer once or twice a game to see what the right play or cube decision is BEFORE he plays. |
