The Danish Backgammon Federation (DBGF) is the most important backgammon organization in Denmark. Headed in Copenhagen, the DBGF organizes local and international backgammon tournaments and events such as the prestigious Nordic Open. The backgammon association promotes the game actively across Denmark via its website, its “Gammon” magazine and through other resources.
The Danish Backgammon Federation was founded in 1987 in Copenhagen. On the first year of its activity, the organization has registered about 160 local backgammon players. Less than 20 years later, the DBGF holds two branches (in Copenhagen and in Aarhus), it counts about 1,300 members, and it hosts dozens of small and large backgammon tournaments throughout the year. The DBGF opens its doors to championship level players and to backgammon beginners alike.
The Danish Backga Federation influence on backgammon in Denmark is seen even outside the country’s boundaries. Danish backgammon players are present in almost every major international backgammon tournament in Europe as well as in the US. The Nordic Open, the annual backgammon event that marked its 20th anniversary in 2008, is one of the most esteemed events in the international backgammon circuit, which draws, every year, the world’s top backgammon players.
